Transgender Activist Asasulted/Molested By Cops

Transexual Activist Maria Louise Roman was assaulted, discriminated against and wrongly incarcerated – ironically, after a taping of "Transamerica" segment for Spanish TV Talk Show Cristina.

Maria Roman is a transgender woman who has been a leader in social services for the Latina transgender community in Los Angeles. She was assaulted and molested by security guards and police in Miami 03/10/06.


I'm trying to get folks across the country aware that this happened. I mean, what happened is horrible, but at least she wasn't murdered like Gwen Araujo or left to die like Tyra Hunter. My hope is that this will cause a national uproar - loud enough so that the Florida authorities have no choice but to deal with it. I hope we can find legal help for Maria, as well as social and emotional resources. Hopefully we can help ensure that this doesn't happen again.
