Transsexual found beaten to death in alley

LOS ANGELES — A transsexual was found beaten to death in an alley near Central City, police said Sunday.

The body was found about 6:25 a.m. Saturday near 14th and Paloma streets, said Los Angeles police Lt. Paul Stocker.

The victim had been badly beaten, he said.

Gordon Yeaton knows it cannot be easy being different.

As advisor to the Gay and Straight Coalition at Irvine High School, he offers tolerance and acceptance to those who have found their world intolerant.
     
 "We have to respect diversity," said Yeaton, who teaches art at the school and also is an Episcopal clergyman. "For young gays and lesbians, it's difficult just dealing with their own sexuality instead of trying to fit the mold of high school jocks or cheerleaders."

High school can be difficult enough, but for gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender students, it can be an excruciating experience that can trigger depression and sometimes leads to suicide.

Lesbian Couple Challenge Marriage Ruling

A lesbian couple today challenged the Irish Government’s refusal to recognise their marriage.

Catherine Zapaonne and Louise Gilligan are seeking a judicial review in the High Court.

Senior counsel Gerard Hogan said the couple had contracted a marriage in Vancouver, British Colombia, in September last year. He said they had applied to the Revenue Commissioners to be recognised as husband and wife but had been refused
