Santa Cruz supervisors come out in favor of gay marriage

The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors today became the first county board in the region outside of San Francisco to come out in favor of gay marriage.

Lawmakers seek to ban civil union recognition

State lawmakers will soon be looking at a bill that says Tennessee will not recognize civil unions or domestic partnerships from other states. In recent weeks, images have been plenty of gay couples taking vows in San Francisco. While such marriages are banned in Tennessee, there are lawmakers here who feel state law is not clear about legal arrangements called civil unions or domestic partnerships that are recognized

NJ Attorney General Says No to Same-Sex Marriages

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New Jersey's attorney general said on Tuesday state law did not permit same-sex marriages and warned local authorities that issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples could bring criminal prosecution.

Public Support May Be Increasing for Same-Sex Unions, Poll Shows

Public support appears to be growing for legalizing civil unions for same-sex couples, as well as for allowing states to make their own laws regulating homosexual marriage, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll.

About half of the country -- 51 percent -- favors allowing gay and lesbian couples to form civil unions with the same basic legal rights of married couples, up six percentage points in less than a month.
A slightly larger majority also rejected amending the U.S. Constitution to ban same-sex marriages in favor of allowing states to make their own laws, an eight-point increase in recent weeks
