Prosecutor weighs charges in latest same-sex ceremonies

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The prosecutor who criminally charged a mayor for performing same-sex weddings is reviewing whether to charge two ministers who stepped in to marry gay couples who did not have marriage licenses.

Gay weddings take place in Eugene over weekend

EUGENE -- Same-sex couples can only obtain marriage licenses in Multnomah County. But two same-sex couples held their wedding ceremony a few hours away in Eugene over the weekend, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon.

Marriage of the Quick and the Dead

It was an interesting month for the institution of marriage. Gays and lesbians in the United States were getting married all over while many of those who were heralding the brilliance of the Mel Gibson movie dealing with the crucifixion of one more tolerant than they were being driven crazy by the sight and screaming for someone to do something. George W. Bush decided to celebrate the movie's opening by announcing that he supports a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage.
Meanwhile, across the ocean the French were dealing not with gay marriage but the marriage of the quick and the dead.

Let the Wildfires Burn?
by Kim Antieau I have been married for 23 years. I thought long and hard about the institution of marriage before I got hitched. Historically, it seemed marriage was a legal way to subvert any legal power a woman might have. In the end, we decided to marry because it gave us legal power as a couple. It helped with health insurance and prevented any problems should one of us get ill.
