Code Red: Protest the Bush Agenda

Protesting the Bush Administration's efforts to dismantle and undermine women's rights, NOW-NYC is organizing a mass demonstration to be held in NYC's Central Park from 7-9PM on Sept.1 during the Republican National Convention.

NOW-NYC President Rita Haley said, "While distortions and misrepresentations of the Administration's record are told at Madison Square Garden and the public is told that 'W is for Women,' we'll be telling the truth about the Administration's assault on women's rights, including reproductive freedom, and the other civil rights we've fought so hard to gain."

"And while the Administration tries to wrap itself in the flag of patriotism, who better than those of us who live in and love New York City to tell the truth about the broken promises and lack of security in the wake of 9/11," continued Haley.

Protest organizers intend to tell the truth about the Bush agenda in speech and song, addressing issues important to women and young people who will determine the outcome of the 2004 elections. The Bush records has been labeled a war on women, people of color, workers, LGBT, disabled, poor and immigrant peoples, the environment and our very Bill of Rights. Since New York City is one of the world's media centers, protest organizers hope that the protest message will reach potential voters across the nation
