Daschle against gay marriage amendment
By SCOTT WALTMAN
Aberdeen (S.C.) American News

Opponents of Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., are pressuring him to support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

The Senate is debating the topic this week and a vote of some sort is expected today.

As Tuesday wore on, the issue grew more and more confusing with both parties fine-tuning their efforts to improve chances of success.

Daschle's November opponent Republican John Thune, Gov. Mike Rounds and others say Daschle should support an amendment banning gay marriage since they believe most of the state's residents do. Daschle, however, said he won't support the amendment because the issue is best left for states to decide.
