Same-Sex Divorce Dispute Decision Expected
Verdict Could Affect Personal, Professional Life Of Transgender Man

HOUSTON -- A decision is expected Tuesday in a Houston divorce dispute that could set a precedent in Texas for breakups of same-sex relationships.

Linda Carter, 60, a transgender born as James Murphy, was declared a woman by the state in 1998.

Four months later, Constance Gonzalez said she married Carter in Las Vegas on Halloween, but said Carter was dressed as a man.

Now, Carter wants the union dissolved since neither Nevada and Texas recognize same-sex marriages.
