Bush rallies support for amendment banning gay marriage

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The outgoing president of the Nashville-based Southern Baptist Convention is urging its 16 million members to lobby Congress for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. And the nation's president joined in.

Jack Graham spoke to about 8,000 Southern Baptists gathered Tuesday in Indianapolis for the annual meeting of the nation's largest Protestant denomination.

The delegates cheered President Bush as he spoke through a live video link to stress his own support for an amendment banning gay marriage.

Bush has spoken to the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting three years running.
