Araujo Judge Asks Lawyers To Appear For Hearing

June 16 (BCN) — Alameda County Superior Court Judge Harry Sheppard has asked the attorneys in the trial of three East Bay men accused of murdering Newark transgender teenager Gwen Araujo to appear in his courtroom for a hearing at 3 p.m. today, according to a court attendant.

The court attendant says he doesn't have any information as to whether jurors have issued any communication about the status of their deliberations.

Jurors, who began deliberating the afternoon of June 3, have been deliberating for the equivalent of about seven full days.

Michael Magidson, Jose Merel and Jason Cazares, all 24, are accused of murdering Araujo, 17, in Newark on Oct. 4, 2002, after discovering that the attractive person they thought was a woman actually was a biological male.
