The men jailed in Fiji for having consensual sex have been given a month to make a formal appeal to the country's High Court.

However, the Fiji Director of Public Prosecutions has warned that the government will be fighting the case, and may well rely on signatures of anti-gay bodies.

Australian tourist Thomas McCoskar, 55, was arrested after found having sex with local man Dhirendra Nada, 23.

They were arrested and sentenced earlier this month, with the first magistrate saying their crimes would make "any decent person vomit".

He jailed them for two years, despite the pair pleading for leniency.
