Former Perry Student Wins Discrimination Lawsuit
Teen Awarded $27K In Harrassment Case

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A former Perry High School student was awarded more than $27,000 in a discrimination lawsuit.

Tyler Rothmeyer, 18, claimed he was discriminated against based on his perceived sexual orientation.

He filed the federal lawsuit in March against the school district, the city of Perry and one of the city's police officers, who was a school resource officer.

The U.S. District Court in Des Moines ordered the school district to pay Rothmeyer $20,000. The police officer was ordered to pay $7,500.
